Value Added

As a poker player, you make a living pushing edges. The majority of the money you make will come from when you know you're ahead and your opponent doesn't. It's quite simple.

Yet, for some reason, off the table poker players are possibly the worst in the world at seeing edges. It's no secret they blow wads of cash for entertainment. To be completely honest, I've never reached this point. I've never tried to live a baller life. But I've never tried finding deals for things either. Usually when I want something, I'm going to buy it or do it.

I envisioned writing a deep, thought-provoking post about this issue amongst poker players, but in the end I decided I'm not as good at writing as others and I don't want to spend 7-paragraphs talking about how poker players waste money. Generally speaking, we just need to stop taking money for granted just because it comes so easily (at times). Saving money here and there really adds up for rainy days. I recently started looking up deals for everything I want to do or buy and the monetary results are astounding. I started thinking about all these freerolls online that I can play in because of my points and every time I skip one, I'd say I'm losing about $200 of value, with potential of earning many times that if I were to win.

Vegas and poker has deceived us all. I plan to fight back this WSOP, beginning with this deal we found online for rooms: 7-nights for $200 at the Wyndam Hotel.
